Kamishibai (Japanese storytelling theatre)

The Kamishibai, which originates from Japan, is a portable storytelling theater, also known as a table theater, paper theater or wooden cinema.

In Japan, a special form of image-based storytelling emerged at the beginning of the 20th century: candy sellers usually rode around the country on bicycles, carrying a small wooden miniature stage on the rack, into which story boards were inserted. This type of presentation was named after the combination of the words "kami" for "paper" and "shibai" for "theater", hence "Kamishibai". Kindergarten and primary school children This type of storytelling is particularly suitable because it allows the storytelling to be ritualized in a catchy way. Whether it is factual stories, Bible stories or foreign languages - the possible uses are as varied as the storytellers and the listeners. The Kamishibai is also ideal as a frame for presenting your own pictures.
